Legendary sports photographer Walter Iooss, Jr. has captured some of the most iconic images in history. “The Perfect Shot” brings more than 80 photographs spanning more than 50 years of Iooss’ career to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The exhibit opens to the public March 5 and runs through September 4, with a special member’s preview night March 4.
Iooss, Jr. began working with Sports Illustrated at the age of 17 and spent more than five decades photographing athletes for the publication, befriending and working with luminaries such as Michael Jordan, Muhammed Ali, Bart Conner, Serena Williams, LeBron James, Joe Namath, Arnold Palmer, Cathy Marino and more. The OKCMOA’s exhibit is divided into five sections: Anticipation, Perseverance, Triumph, Disappointment, and Reflection. The power of sports to epitomize these basic, raw emotions is enhanced by the prowess and talent of the subjects and Iooss, Jr.’s skill behind the lens. This is an exhibit not to be missed!
You may also consider registering for a public exhibition tour, where curator Bryn Schockmel will lead tours of the exhibit. Those are scheduled for Friday, March 11 from 6 – 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 30 from 1 – 2 p.m.
