Oklahoma City’s population has grown twice as fast as the national average
One thing that always surprises newcomers to Oklahoma City is just how big it is. OKC is a major metropolitan city with more than 1.4 million people calling it home.
Oklahoma City is the most populous city in the state of Oklahoma. From 2010 to 2018, Oklahoma City’s metro population grew by nearly 14 percent and has experienced a 1.55 percent average annual growth rate. In 2018, the Oklahoma City MSA population was estimated to be 1,421,953 while the city of Oklahoma City’s population was 673,590. Between 2010 and 2015, the Oklahoma City MSA was the 10th-fastest-growing large metro in the country and has grew twice as fast as the nation.
By 2023, the population for the Oklahoma City MSA is expected to 1.52 million people. At the current growth rate, the metro would reach two million people by 2040.
