Oklahoma boasts diverse terrain
Most people who have never visited our great state picture nothing but flat plains as far as the eye can see. However, with 11 different ecoregions, Oklahoma actually has some of the nation’s most diverse terrain. That is right, the Sooner State is home to mountains, swamps, prairies, forests and more.
Oklahoma’s ecoregions, as defined by the EPA, are:
- Western High Plains
- Southwestern Tablelands
- Central Great Plains
- Tallgrass Prairie
- Crosstimbers
- Caves and Prairie
- Ozark Highlands
- Ozark Forest
- Hardwood Forest
- Ouchita Mountains
- Cypress Swamps & Forest
