Show them what they are missing

Family enjoying OKC

One of the best things about Thanksgiving is family. Sure the turkey, football and parades are nice but there is nothing like seeing your long-lost relatives, especially those who aren’t from around these parts. Assuming you like your family, wouldn’t it be great if they lived a little closer? We think Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to introduce them to the sides of OKC they might not know. In fact, why not sign them up for our blog while they are in town? Simply go to www.abetterlifeokc.com/blog and on the left side of the page you will see a simple signup form. Signing up couldn’t be easier and we promise no spam. Once a week we will deliver the goods straight to your inbox on why OKC is the perfect place to live, work and play.

Homes with a historic flair

OKC Historic House

History is cool. You know it, I know it and real estate agents know it. You might be wondering how we can be so confident that real estate agents know this, too—well, it’s quite simple: The only thing cooler than history is living in it.

The historic neighborhoods of OKC aren’t just some of our oldest, but they’re beautiful, rich in character, lined with trees and close to everything. Needless to say, we’re very proud of our historic neighborhoods. So proud, in fact, that we have a list of some of OKC’s most prominent historic neighborhoods to help you find the best one for you!

Wide open spaces

OKC Suburban Home

A wise man once said about moving,

“Yeah, it usually helps a lot when you know where exactly you’re moving.”

And we couldn’t agree more!

Housing is important, that goes without saying. Equally important is finding the right housing for you. And for some, the right kind of housing isn’t quite in the city part of Oklahoma City—it’s something rural or suburban! Which is why we here at TBL have assembled a guide for those of you interested in rural or suburban housing. Give those links a try and let us know if you were able to find your perfect neighborhood!

Build your dream home in OKC

Housing in OKC

A booming hub for art, culture, shopping and sport, it’s no wonder Oklahoma City has seen profound population growth in the last few years. OKC seems to be on an historic rise to success, and we want you to come join us on our path to a bright future.

While OKC’s existing housing stock features plenty of choices, settings and styles, many residents opt to taking advantage of our low housing costs by choosing to build their own awesome abode. With a general cost of living 8 percent below the national average, average utility cost 12 percent below, average housing cost 14 percent below and a property tax rated 47th-lowest in the United States, OKC is an excellent city to set your cornerstone and start building a forever home. Take a look at our Find a Home Builder and Moving Resources pages and get ready to plant your stake in Oklahoma City.

Make the move easier

Moving Resources

While we could not be more excited to have you relocate to our great city, we get it - moving is tough. If you are coming from further away and/or don’t know anyone in your new city, it is even tougher. It is hard to even know where to start! Where do I get cable? When does my trash get picked up? When does the newest edition of The Better Life hit my inbox? Okay, so maybe that last one is not the most important thing you are worried about, but we can dream. To make your move easier visit the moving resources section of our webpage.

Moving on Up

Moving to a new city can be stressful. What part of town should I live in? Should I get a house, condo or apartment? Rent or buy? Sometimes you may even be looking for a job. While we here at the Better Life spend most of our time trying to keep you informed on great things to do in Oklahoma City, we also want to give you some practical info to help relieve any of the stress we can.

The utilities page on our website is a great starting point if you have any questions on who provides what in Oklahoma City. In Oklahoma City proper OGE Energy is our electric provider and Oklahoma Natural Gas provides, you guessed it -- gas. The City of Oklahoma City takes care of water, waste and recycling. Like most major metros, we have a plethora of television, phone and internet providers to choose from.

Living outside of the city? No problem we also have links to the surrounding communities where you can get more information on the utilities in your town.

Let us help with New Year’s resolution

business people

The year is new and that means it is time to come up with a plan for 2017. Here are our three suggestions:

Resolution: Save Money
This is a bit of a cheat because if you live in Oklahoma City you are already doing this. OKC consistently has one of the lowest costs of living in the U.S. Check out our handy cost of living calculator to see how much money you save by simply living the better life in OKC.

Resolution: Get to Know OKC
Whether you are new to the metro or have lived here all your life we promise you there are sides of OKC you need to discover and explore. Of course our blog is the perfect start but also check out our friends over at VisitOKC.com. The will also do a great job of keeping you informed on the can’t-miss events in OKC.

Resolution: Be an Ambassador
We love nothing more than spreading the gospel of OKC 24-7. However, nothing is more valuable than hearing recommendations from someone you know personally. Help be an ambassador for our community. Know someone thinking about moving? Introduce them to our website, sign them up for our blog and show them the e-magazine VeloCity.

As a loyal TBL reader, you know we’re all about making new residents feel at home. Our yearly print publication, the Welcome Guide, has just been released. Between that, this blog, our website, VeloCity e-magazine and greaterokc.tv, that’s enough OKC newcomer info to choke even the most voracious blue whale (if information were krill, but you know what we mean). Be sure to check it out online or order a printed copy if you just like the feel of paper between your fingers, and don’t forget to share with friends who are new to the area or who may be thinking about their next move.
