Oklahoma City’s next major sports and entertainment venue now has an official name. The Oklahoma City Thunder and Continental Resources announced a long-term naming rights partnership for the city’s new downtown arena, which will be known as Continental Coliseum when it opens in 2028.
Momentum around the project is building quickly. Demolition at the site is nearing completion, and the groundbreaking for the new arena is scheduled to take place this week. Construction crews are expected to begin mobilizing soon as the city moves closer to bringing the state-of-the-art venue to life.
Once finished, Continental Coliseum will become the future home of the Thunder and a major destination for concerts, touring shows and national sporting events. The arena is expected to further strengthen downtown Oklahoma City’s growing reputation as a hub for entertainment and large-scale events.
The naming rights partnership reflects both organizations’ Oklahoma roots and their shared investment in the city’s future. Leaders from the Thunder and Continental Resources said the collaboration will also include expanded community initiatives focused on literacy and education across the state.
Voters approved construction of the new city-owned arena in 2023, marking one of the most significant public investments in Oklahoma City’s recent history. Designed by MANICA Architecture and built by Flintco-Mortenson, the venue is expected to play a major role in the city’s continued economic growth and cultural momentum.
The Thunder will continue playing home games at Paycom Center until the new arena opens, ushering in what leaders describe as a new era for live entertainment in Oklahoma City.
