Looking for something new to do downtown that won’t cost a thing? Two immersive art experiences are now open in Oklahoma City, offering interactive installations and fresh photo opportunities in Bricktown and at Oklahoma Contemporary.
Walk through the new Cloud Embrace sculpture in Bricktown
A large-scale public art installation, Cloud Embrace, has debuted at United Way Plaza near Reno Avenue and Walnut Avenue in Bricktown.
The interactive sculpture features perforated steel, colorful panels and LED lighting designed to reflect Oklahoma’s dramatic skies. Visitors can walk through the structure and experience shifting light patterns that create a different atmosphere during the day and after dark.
Located steps from the Bricktown Canal and Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, the installation is expected to become a popular gathering place and one of downtown’s newest photo spots.
Why go:
- Free outdoor art experience in the heart of Bricktown
- Unique lighting effects and immersive design
- Close to restaurants, canal attractions and the ballpark
International light exhibit now open at Oklahoma Contemporary
Another immersive art experience is now open at Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center. Anthony McCall: Solid Light transforms projected light into sculptural forms that visitors can walk through and explore.
The internationally touring exhibition has been shown at major institutions, including Tate Modern, and brings globally recognized experimental art to Oklahoma City.
The installation creates slowly evolving volumes of light that blur the boundaries between cinema, sculpture and drawing. Admission is free, and the exhibit will be on view through July 27.
Why go:
- Free admission to a major international art exhibition
- Interactive installations unlike traditional museum experiences
- A great indoor activity option this spring and summer
