Whether you're a fan of horses, local art or farmers markets, there's something happening this week in OKC worth checking out. Here's a quick look at what's going on:
American Quarter Horse Youth World Championship
Aug. 1–10
OKC Fairgrounds
The American Quarter Horse Youth World Championship is in full swing at the OKC Fairgrounds. Youth competitors from across the globe take part in this event, considered one of the most competitive stages for riders ages 18 and under.
Participants qualify through a points system or by competing through their state or provincial affiliate. Classes include English, western and halter disciplines. The event runs through Aug. 10 and is open to the public.
Through Her Eyes
July 10–Sept. 26
Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Red Earth Art Center, Downtown OKC
Through Her Eyes is a new art exhibition at the Red Earth Art Center showcasing the work of Indigenous women artists. From beadwork and textiles to painting and photography, each piece reflects personal stories and cultural traditions.
The exhibition runs through late September and offers a powerful look at identity and creativity from Native perspectives.
Eastside Fresh Market
Tuesdays through Oct. 28
4 to 7 p.m.
Northeast Community Health and Wellness Center, 3748 N Lincoln Blvd
Every Tuesday afternoon, the Eastside Fresh Market brings farm-fresh produce, meats, bread and more to Northeast OKC. The market supports local farmers and increases access to healthy food options in the area.
Alongside shopping, the market hosts weekly educational classes and kid-friendly activities. It’s a good stop for anyone looking to shop local and eat fresh.
Keep an eye out for more events popping up around the city as summer winds down.
