As summer winds down, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber is hosting a signature event that tackles important topics facing the region: the future of public education.
State of the Schools

Just in time for the new school year, State of the Schools brings together educators, business leaders and workforce advocates for a conversation about public education in the metro. The event highlights what’s working, what needs attention and how schools and businesses can partner to prepare students for tomorrow’s jobs.
Dr. Jim Hess, Dean of the College of Education and Human Sciences at Oklahoma State University, will headline the event with a keynote focused on classroom flexibility, teacher development and real-world learning. A panel discussion will follow, featuring:
- Nellie Tayloe Sanders, Deputy Secretary of Workforce Development
- Dr. Jamie Polk, Deputy Superintendent, Oklahoma City Public Schools
- Dr. Josh Delich, Superintendent, Edmond Public Schools
- Dr. Robert Romines, Superintendent, Moore Public Schools
Topics will include dual enrollment, mental health support and building stronger ties between schools and local employers.
