The Capitol View neighborhood will come together at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, for a ribbon-cutting and community celebration of Dewey Park, Oklahoma City’s newest 4-acre neighborhood treasure at 3500 N. Lindsay Ave. Mayor David Holt and Ward 7 Councilman Camal Pennington will lead the festivities in welcoming this new community space.
Once the long-vacant site of Dewey Elementary School, the park's transformation is the centerpiece of a five-year, $3 million Strong Neighborhoods Initiative (SNI) revitalization effort in Capitol View. The initiative has supported construction of nine new homes, housing repairs, public art, tree plantings and more. The park itself, a $2.5 million investment, features walking paths, sports courts, exercise stations, native planting beds, shade structures, picnic areas and a memorial wall honoring community leaders.
Children will enjoy flower-shaped play structures, a first for Oklahoma City neighborhood parks, while adults can take advantage of shaded seating, public art and a pathway that encourages reflection and connection. The landscaping, thoughtfully designed with input from neighborhood residents, emphasizes native plants to support pollinators and local biodiversity.
Organizers hope the park becomes a vibrant gathering place—a space where people stroll, talk, play and grow together. From morning walks to community picnics and after-school fun, Dewey Park is poised to become a beloved backdrop for everyday life in north Oklahoma City.
Join neighbors and local leaders at 10 a.m. July 31 for family fun, fresh air and connection under the Oklahoma sky. For more details, click here.
