If you’re anything like us, you love free stuff... especially when it gets you access to books, movies, music, workshops, museum passes, and more. A library card from the Metropolitan Library System unlocks all of that and then some, and getting one is easier than you might think.
Here’s how you can sign up and start exploring.
Who can get a library card?
Good news, most people in the metro area qualify for a free card. If you live in Oklahoma City or anywhere in Oklahoma County, you’re eligible. You can also qualify if you:
- Own property in Oklahoma County
- Attend or work at a school in the county
- Go to school in Oklahoma City Public Schools (just use your student ID!)
- Live in Cleveland, McClain or Pottawatomie counties (with reciprocal access)
There are also options for school staff, visitors, or folks who live nearby but outside the standard zone.
How to apply
You’ve got options!
Apply online
Sign up at metrolibrary.org to start using digital resources right away. You’ll get a card number instantly and can request a physical card later if you'd like.
Apply in person
Prefer the personal touch? Visit any branch with:
- A photo ID (like a license or passport)
- A proof of address (such as a utility bill or lease)
- Parent/guardian info if you're under 16
Not in the zone?
No worries, you can still get access. Oklahoma residents outside the free zones can purchase a $70 annual card that covers your entire household. Just visit a branch to sign up.
