If you’re new to Oklahoma City or just looking for a great way to connect with the community, there’s a brand-new spot you’ll want to check out. The OG&E Coliseum at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds opened earlier this month, marking the completion of an $82 million project. It’s a big step forward for the city and a fresh chapter for a venue with a lot of history.
OG&E Coliseum was built to host top-tier equestrian events, agricultural shows, concerts, and more. It seats nearly 8,000 people and offers a flexible, intimate setting that makes every event feel special. It’s a place where old traditions continue, new memories are made, and people come together — all just minutes from downtown OKC.
The opening of the arena shows how Oklahoma City is honoring its roots while still pushing forward. Thanks to MAPS 4, a voter-approved effort funded by a temporary penny sales tax, this $82 million investment has created a space that’s ready to serve the community for years to come.
One of the first major events held in the new space was the National Reining Horse Association Derby, known as the NRHA Derby. This world-famous competition brings in riders and horses from across the country and around the world. The event, which wrapped up on June 22, showed off the incredible teamwork between horse and rider through a series of exciting moves like quick spins and dramatic sliding stops, all in front of a cheering crowd.
For anyone new to Oklahoma, the NRHA Derby was a great chance to experience a big part of the state’s agricultural heritage while watching an international-level competition in a beautiful, modern arena.
