Oklahoma City’s Plaza District is the definition of community. A balanced blend of creativity and local business have turned the area along 16th Street into a destination for locals and visitors alike.
Here are some family-friendly events you should consider checking out this month in the Plaza District.
Virginia Sitzes solo exhibition, through June 4
Local artist and advocate Virginia Sitzes opened her solo exhibition May 11, which coincided with DNA Galleries 15th anniversary celebration.
Sitzes is the creator and director of Sunny Dayz Mural Festival, Oklahoma’s first and only mural fest dedicated to celebrating female and nonbinary artists.
Sitzes also was tapped to create a Support Local Art design that will be featured on apparel, limited edition prints and more.
Pie Junkie Throwback Thursdays, May 18 and 25
Get your sweet tooth ready because Pie Junkie, 1711 Northwest 16th Street, is closing out May’s Throwback Thursday festivities with two absolute bangers: the Hot Mess and the Almond Joy.
In celebration of Junkie’s 10th anniversary, the Hot Mess will be served up beginning at 10 a.m. May 18 and be available until it’s sold out. What are the chances it’ll sell out? Well, considering it’s a “gooey marbled butter cake topped with whipped cream, chopped bacon and salted bourbon caramel,” I’d say the chances are high because yum.
Then, from 10 a.m. until sold out on May 25, Junkie is rolling out their final bakes of the Almond Joy. The fan favorite is being retired, so get you some while you can.
Head on over to the Plaza District’s site to learn more about these events and more.
