It’s a new year with new goals. If one of yours this year is being healthier and more active, there are several calorie-burning options you can do for free.
If you’re looking to run your first half or full marathon this year, Red Coyote offers a free training program. The store, OKC’s go-to place for running and fitness, provides coaches, strategic training to gradually increase your running/walking distance and instruction on proper nutrition. Training with a group also brings you new friends to encourage you on your journey. You can learn more about the program and sign up on the Red Coyote website.
Oklahoma City has five outdoor fitness courts that offer you the opportunity to get a full-body workout while absorbing some vitamin D.
The fitness courts are located at:
- Stars & Stripes Park, 3701 S Lake Hefner Drive
- Douglass Park, 901 Frederick Douglass Ave
- Wiley Post Park, 2021 S Robinson Ave
- Woodson Park, 401 S May Ave
- Boathouse District, 608 Riversport Drive
You can also access quick, seven-minute workouts on the Fitness Court app that will give you a full-body workout with the court’s equipment.
If you have your library card, the Metropolitan Library System also offers free fitness classes for all ages at various locations across the metro. You can find one closest to you by visiting their website.
You can find more free exercise opportunities through Keep Moving OKC, a wellness initiative of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.
No matter which of these opportunities you choose, taking part in any of these activities will be a great way to start off the new year.
