Take a trip through eastern Oklahoma

Eastern Oklahoma is home to several cultures and natural attractions. The area is made up of multiple Native American nations, alongside some of the state’s most well-known towns and attractions.

Second only to the state’s capital city, Tulsa is widely known around the nation. The northeastern metropolitan area offers a variety of activities for visitors like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tulsa Zoo and Utica Square. The city also has a nice selection of museums like the Tulsa Air and Space Museum & Planetarium, Philbrook Museum of Art and Greenwood Rising. Venues like BOK Center and Cain’s Ballroom bring some of the world’s top performers to the Sooner state, while premier parks like Gathering Place offer the city’s citizens an exciting opportunity to enjoy the outdoors.

Drive south from Tulsa and you will find an even more exciting outdoor experience in Eufaula. Known primarily for the largest lake contained within Oklahoma, Lake Eufaula, this community brings people from across the region for boating, fishing, wakeboarding, swimming and camping. Since the lake rarely freezes over, fishermen flock to the city, even in the winter, to take advantage of the largemouth bass-filled waters. The city also offers a historic 20-block downtown filled with restaurants and retail.

Connected by the Canadian River, travelers can visit the Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge further east in Vian. This tiny town has a population of less than 1,500 people but also serves as a home to some of Oklahoma’s most treasured animals. The wildlife refuge helps preserve the habitat of bobcats, muskrats and more. The conservation is a perfect place for bird watchers with large groups of snow geese, bald eagles and migrating mallards.
