In northwest Oklahoma City, you will find a tucked-away pocket of wilderness at Martin Nature Park. The 140 acres of woods, grasslands and streams make a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.
The park has 2.5 miles of woodland trails, a visitor center with live animals, a nature learning library, a nature-themed playground and restrooms. There are tables for picnics under covered pavilions, which are available for rent.
Residents of all abilities can explore the area using the Wilderness Matters Integris Courage Trail. The boardwalk-style, half-mile trail is an improved way for residents with disabilities and mobile limitations to traverse the park.
The park staff hosts guided hikes and educational programs, such as kayaking. You can always hike the trails by yourself or with your family.
While the park is a nice neck of the woods, there are some things you cannot do there such fishing, swimming, smoking, starting a campfire or feeding the wildlife. Oh, and leave your four-legged family members at home because they are not allowed either.
Martin Nature Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Visitor’s Center is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day but Monday.
