In order to meet federal security standards and have the ability to board domestic flights with only your ID card, you will need to get a REAL ID driver license by May 3, 2023.
A great place to start the process of obtaining your Oklahoma REAL ID is by visiting the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety (DPS) website. It details the cost, provides a checklist of items you’ll need at your appointment, and answers frequently asked questions.
The REAL ID checklist walks you through all the options you can bring to confirm your identity and residence. It’s very self-explanatory so you can go to your appointment confident you have everything you need.
Most DPS offices require an appointment, and you see the offices across Oklahoma to find one that best fits your location and schedule. The offices book out 60 days in advance. If none of the DPS offices have available appointments, you can contact your local tag agency to ask if they process REAL IDs and what their process is for scheduling appointments. A quick Google search can bring up all the tag agencies closest to you.
At your appointment, you can choose a four-year REAL ID credential or an eight-year credential. If you choose the eight-year, it will cost twice as much as the four-year option but will ensure you don’t have to revisit the process anytime soon.
