Summer seems to fly by like the wind. So, be sure to take advantage of it.
Kids can learn to sail this summer through Chamber member RIVERSPORT OKC’s camps at Lake Hefner. Students entering the second through tenth grades are eligible to take part in the camps that range in skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Four sailing camps are offered, in total including:
- An introduction to sailing camp for kids aged 8 to 11, or entering the second through fifth grades
- An introduction to sailing camp for kids aged 11 to 16, or entering the fifth through tenth grades
- An advanced sailing camp for kids aged 11 to 16, or entering the fifth through tenth grades, who have previously completed one week of introductory camps, or an equivalent.
- A learn-to-race sailing camp for kids aged 11 to 16, or entering the fifth through tenth grades, who have completed one week of advanced sailing camp, or an equivalent.
The camps begin in June and continue through the end of July, with each camp consisting of one week.
Kids can learn everything from safety, parts of the boat, steering, knots and lines, upwind and downwind sailing to docking, using a jib, and working as a team to race a sailboat.
All campers will meet at the Lake Hefner Marina at 4407 South Lake Hefner Drive, at the southwest corner of the lake.
