There’s so much to love about OKC. We can talk about the outside social perception of our world-class friendliness. We can talk about our business development portfolio that is expanding by the day. We can also talk about our sustainable lifestyle and booming population. What about our inner and city surroundings? The open plains and city infrastructure should be part of the conversation.
As hot as real estate has been here in Oklahoma City, there’s a home and neighborhood that is suited for everyone. Buyers have their needs, wants and desires that fit themselves and family. A word that is heard frequently (second to ‘location’) during the process is ‘community’ – living near a park is a bonus that exudes the true meaning of being a part of a community. The geography of Oklahoma City is uniquely set up this way – we have several city parks to prove it! Wherever your venture takes you in Oklahoma City, you’ll likely come across a city park, large and small.
Here are some key OKC parks in every direction –
In central/north OKC…
Stars and Stripes Park is a trail-friendly park at Lake Hefner that is large enough to accompany a nice family gathering. Memorial Park is centrally located in the city with a wraparound walking trail, playground, tennis and basketball courts. The Boys and Girls Club of Oklahoma County is also conveniently located at the park. Dolese Youth Park is in northwest OKC with a walking trail, baseball fields and disc golf course.
In south OKC…
Earlywine Park offers a water park, distant walking trails, golf facilities and tennis courts. The Earlywine YMCA is nearby, providing classes and other activities for members.
In east OKC…
Edwards Park has a fishing pond, basketball courts and picnic area. There’s a walking area around the park and perimeter of the pond. Ray Trent Park is a large, fielded park and playground in Tinker Diagonal – great for walking pets and picnic parties.
In west OKC…
Lake Overholser Park features a walking/running trail throughout the lake with options for fishing and boating. Like parks around Lake Hefner, this is one of the larger parks available in the city that is most preferred with nature lovers and outdoorsman.
In downtown OKC…
Scissortail Park is the city’s latest park installment that is large enough to host community gatherings and events. This is an ideal spot to have a picnic and experience Oklahoma City, with views of city icons such as the Devon Tower, Skydance Bridge and the Wheeler Ferris Wheel. Wheeler Park is also a widely popular choice that is located a short distance southwest of downtown OKC. Here, you will find walking trails, along with baseball and soccer fields. Also, we can’t forget to mention the chance to ride the Ferris wheel along the riverside across the river at the Wheeler District!
Thanks to our city parks, OKC is all about community. Plan a part of your day and enjoy life at a city park near you.
