Being from this great state, it’s easy to get lost in the seasons. When it comes to the discussion of seasons, your immediate impulse points towards the weather – and who could fault you on that one! There’s a right time and season for everything, it seems. Did you know the start of spring turkey season in Oklahoma is only a few days away?
A non-hunter will likely follow the food produce calendar and assume that turkey season is in November where demand takes place in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. While fall turkey season runs from October to December for archers and early November for shooters, believe it or not, the normal period for spring turkey season in Oklahoma begins in mid-April and peaks in May. The endless work and dedication of our local ranchers and farmers make turkey season for hunters and enthusiasts prime and possible. This year, spring turkey season runs from April 16 to May 16 statewide, with a youth spring turkey season running April 9-10.
New rules and regulations for turkey hunting vary annually and from state to state. Per usual, Oklahoma promotes and encourages participants to take action for a safe and responsible outing. This is also the season for other wildlife game. If you want to venture out to a different kind of outdoor activity or event for yourself or you family, turkey and game hunting could be something for you to ponder and explore.
