Just because it’s near the end of 2021 and a new year is about to begin, doesn’t necessarily mean there is an absence of business-related events that can help you network and make connections in Oklahoma City’s business community, especially if you are new to the area. The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber puts on networking events throughout the year for members and nonmembers alike just for that purpose, and December through January is no exception.
The month of December kicks off with one of the Chamber’s largest year-end events, the Annual Meeting, on Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Oklahoma City Convention Center. Hear Gerarda Van Kirk, Accenture global future of work lead, and Yaarit Silverstone, Accenture’s senior managing director for talent and organizational effectiveness and human potential, will serve as keynotes. They will cover what companies can do now to retain the best employees while planning for the workforce needs of the future, including how to uncover hidden pools of talent and how to use technology to your advantage. In addition, Sean Trauschke, Chamber chair and chairman, president and CEO of OGE Energy Corp, will reflect back on Chamber accomplishments throughout 2021 and then reveal the Chamber’s goals for 2022. You can register for the Annual Meeting by visiting okcchamber.com/events.
Enlighten, a free, virtual event that provides networking and practical resources to help boost your business performance, is making its final appearance for 2021 on Dec. 10. Scaling-up growth expert Stacy Eads will provide actionable advice for how to position your business for success in 2022. Register by visiting okcchamber.com/events.
While details for most Chamber events in 2022 have yet to be released, one signature event that provides opportunities for networking and connecting with area legislators is already on the January calendar. During the Jan. 26th Legislative Kickoff, attendees will hear from a panel of Republican and Democratic leaders discuss issues that affect local businesses. Scheduled to serve on that panel are Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Treat and Democratic Leader Kay Floyd as well as House Majority Floor Leader Jon Echols and Democratic Minority Caucus Chair Cyndi Munson. Attendees can also make their voices heard on issues impacting the business community. The Legislative Kickoff will be held at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum from 8 to 9:30 a.m. For more information or to register, go to okcchamber.com/events.
In addition to the Legislative Kickoff, the Chamber will also host its very first Chamber Forum of the new year on Jan. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Vast. Attendees will hear from representatives of diversion programs on the work they do within the justice system and how diversion helps low-level, nonviolent offenders return to productive lives within our community. Speakers include Damon Britton, executive director for the Diversion Hub; The Honorable Kenneth M. Stoner, District Judge, Oklahoma County; and Timothy Tardibono, executive director of the Oklahoma County Criminal Justice Advisory Council.
