Each year, family and friends from around the country join together for 5Ks and fun runs before the feasting of Thanksgiving Day begins. Though there is nothing like grandma’s homemade dinner rolls, Uncle Henry’s apple pie or Aunt Martha’s cranberry relish, developing a family tradition of getting active can be a great way to enjoy the day together before the customary meal.
Here are a few “Turkey Trot” options to consider this Thanksgiving, all around the OKC metro:
Oklahoma City Turkey Tracks - Downtown OKC near 5th and Harvey
This event is supporting our local Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. The Thanksgiving Day 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run offer an amazing morning in downtown Oklahoma City, a post-race, pre-feast party and an opportunity to give back by hosting a drop-off zone for Toys for Tots donations. Their goal is to collect 1,000 toys, which will be distributed by the U.S Marine Corps Reserve as Christmas gifts to children in need in the Oklahoma City area. All ages and experience levels are welcome. You can register here.
Edmond Turkey Trot – 28 East Main St, Edmond, OK 73034
Head north on Thanksgiving morning to downtown Edmond for the Edmond Turkey Trot, Oklahoma's largest Thanksgiving event. At this event, you can race through the 5K Run or breeze through the 1 Mile Family Wobble. Strollers and friendly dogs on a leash are welcome, and the best Turkey Trot costume will win a delicious prize. This event is volunteer coordinated and 100% of proceeds benefit Turning Point Ministries. Register for the event here.
Piedmont Turkey Trot - 15 Jackson Ave. NW, Piedmont, OK 73078
For the third year, Piedmont is hosting a 5K and 1-mile fun run. All proceeds will benefit Bright Sky Ministry, an organization dedicated to providing essentials to Oklahoma foster families providing care to at-risk children. Shirts and medals are included in the price of the race. Costumes are welcome and prizes will be given! Register for the event here.
