You don’t have to read our blog for long to know that aerospace is important in Oklahoma City. Not just because of the jobs it provides our citizens but the countless ways in which people from this community have impacted the history of aerospace.
One of the most interesting museums in Oklahoma City is the 99s Museum of Women Pilots. Named for the international organization of women pilots founded in 1929, the museum has more than 5,000 square feet of artifacts that preserve the history of women in aviation.
One of the most impressive exhibits you can find at the museum is “A Timeline of Historic Flights by Amelia Earhart”. In this collection, you explore the famous aviator’s record-setting flights including her 1928 flight as a passenger across the Atlantic, her 1932 crossing of the Atlantic, her 1935 crossing of the Pacific, and the 1937 attempt to circumnavigate the globe, which ended in the disappearance of Amelia and her navigator Fred Noonan.
Other exhibits include a feature on female military pilots from WWII to today and items belonging to Oklahoma astronaut Jerrie Cobb.
The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
