Let’s be honest—there’s no shortage of car-free ways to get around downtown Oklahoma City these days. You can take your pick from multiple rentable scooter companies or hop on the OKC Streetcar to name a few. But let’s not overlook the O.G. in rentable downtown transportation: Spokies bikes.
Spokies is operated by Embark, which oversees the city’s public transportation systems, including the bus system. Spokies is the city’s only bike-share program, with eight classic dock stations and 25 dockless DASH bikes. Since 2012, these rentable bikes have been one of the best and most affordable ways to cruise around downtown and nearby districts.
For those unfamiliar with how to use Spokies, the first step is downloading the Bcycle App, which will help you locate and check out a bike. Alternatively, if you are near a dock station you can can check out a bike from there. You’ll have to register with your credit card, and then you can choose and unlock your bike. Spokies Classic bikes—the ones you’ll find at Spokies stations—are best for rides to areas of the city that have a Spokies station to dock your bike. Dash bikes can go anywhere in the ridership area.
You can purchase a single ride, a three-hour pass or monthly and annual passes to the service. View more about the usage fees here. No matter which option you choose, make sure you wear a helmet, review the rules of the road, and most importantly, have fun!
