If you have ever wanted to go whitewater rafting, kayaking or tubing but thought you had to travel to Arizona, Colorado or Wyoming to do it, think again! Right here in Oklahoma City is one of the top whitewater rapids facilities in the nation, and you won’t have to spend a whole lot of cash or time to get there.
RIVERSPORT Rapids in Oklahoma City is a premier destination for anyone who wants to experience the full thrill and feel of what it’s like to hit Class IV rapids without having to travel hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to do it. RIVERSPORT Rapids is a $45 million whitewater rafting and kayaking center located on the north bank of the Oklahoma River, just south of the Bricktown District.
Designated as a U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Site, RIVERSPORT Rapids offers a variety of whitewater activities and adventures for every skill level, from the beginner who has never before stepped foot in a raft or kayak, all the way to the expert who has years of experience and training to tackle even the most difficult rapids.
For those thrill seekers looking for a big adrenaline rush, try out the whitewater rafting where rafters can experience the same kind of Class IV rapids they see on TV or in the movies on rivers such as the Colorado River, Arkansas River (not the stretch in Oklahoma!) or the Snake River. If you prefer a not-so-daring run on the rapids, the levels and terrain can be adjusted lower to fit your particular skill and comfort levels. And don’t worry, there will be an expert guide in the raft with you, and you will be wearing a helmet and a personal floating device (i.e., life jacket) to keep you safe. Before you get into the raft, your guide will also provide you with some valuable information and instructions that will ensure you have a fun experience.
If whitewater kayaking is more your style, RIVERSPORT Rapids has you covered as well! You will get to experience the same skill levels found on the whitewater rapids course. Safety gear and instructions are provided. Staff can even teach you the skills needed to conquer whatever size rapids are thrown at you through a Discovery Whitewater Kayaking class. You will learn all the fundamentals of kayaking in this class along with the basics of kayaking safety.
Tubing is another way that visitors to RIVERSPORT Rapids can enjoy their day. You can either tube solo or with up to four people. Either way, you are destined to have a splashing good time in the water. But remember, this is not a lazy river ride!
