The “Explore OKC” card game features Oklahoma City’s architecture and is a great way to get to know your city.
Oklahoma City has more than its share of architectural gems and unique buildings, and one former resident took his love of the city’s architecture and created a game.
Explore OKC is a matching card game highlighting buildings and architecture throughout OKC. Categories include Downtown, Northeast Northwest, South and Once Upon A Time. Each category includes 10 buildings along with the year they were constructed. The game includes a guide that explains how to play at different levels and with different ages.
Arjan Jager created Explore OKC. Originally from The Netherlands, he called Oklahoma City home for five years while working as an urban designer. Walks and bike rides around the city opened Jager’s eyes to the architecture and design and he began illustrating what he discovered.
“As the pandemic hit, I got the idea of developing an OKC architecture memory game for two reasons. First because there were so many buildings I wanted to draw, second because so many great buildings in OKC are demolished instead of rehabilitated and I thought a game could help people see the value of architecture and history. Plus, I believe that an old school card game with friends or family might be enjoyed in our fast paced digital time,” said Jager.
The game is available locally at the OKCMOA Museum Store or on Jager’s website, www.arjanjager.com.
Jager now lives in Chicago, but says Oklahoma City holds a special place in his heart because it’s where his art and illustration work began.
