The best in Western history, art and culture is located right here in Oklahoma City at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
The museum’s newest exhibit is Spiro and the Art of the Mississippian World. The exhibit explores the Spiroan community through archeological and historical data illustrating its connection to communities throughout North and Central America. The exhibit runs through May 9.
Women in the West are featured in two exhibitions running through May 16. Find Her West shows the diversity and commonality of women who shaped the American West. Blazing a Trail depicts women as they overcame the odds in a male-dominated society and blazed the trail for women to vote and determine their own path.
The animals of the American West are as iconic as the landscapes they inhabit, and they’ve inspired artists for years. Close Encounters: Western Wildlife features art and illustrations of raccoons, owls, deer, elk, bison, mountain lions and more in their habitats and around the West. The exhibit runs through July 11.
