From the annual Festival of the Arts to local performing arts organizations, the Civic Center Music Hall has long been the spot to see, hear and experience the best of Oklahoma City’s arts community.
The Civic Center’s roots run deep in downtown Oklahoma City. Opened in 1937 as the Municipal Auditorium, it was renovated and renamed the Civic Center Music Hall in 1967. The centerpiece of the Music Hall is the Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre, a "building within a building" that stands inside the shell of the original Municipal Auditorium.
As part of the first MAPS program, the Civic Center was renovated in 2001 and is now known as one of the best acoustic halls in the United States.
While COVID-19 has altered many of the performances, a variety of music, dance and theatre shows are still on the schedule. Firebird presented by the Oklahoma City Ballet, Heartland: Women of Country Music with the OKC Philharmonic and Of Perpetual Solace in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Murrah Building bombing presented by Canterbury Voices, just to name a few.
