In an effort to encourage people to visit the popular district and keep everyone safe and socially distanced, the Plaza District has launch 16th Street Saturdays. Every Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., NW 16th street running through the Plaza District will be closed to traffic, but open to fun.
The extra space will give visitors more room to roam the district and provide additional opportunities for live music and art vendors. There will also be increased outdoor seating for the Plaza’s many amazing restaurants, giving patrons a perfect place to enjoy carry out orders.
The Plaza District is one of the most sought-out destinations for festivities and fare in Oklahoma City but the pandemic forced the district to cancel its annual Plaza District Festival and temporarily halt its monthly LIVE on the Plaza event. Sixteenth Street Saturdays is a wonderful way to experience some of the magic of the Plaza, without the crowds that can come with the marquee events. Check out 16th Street Saturdays through October.
While there, watch artists at work during the fifth annual 2020 Plaza Walls Mural Expo. The Plaza Walls Mural Expo will feature artists painting new murals around the district during September and October. Each artist will work on their mural for up to four days and people are encouraged to watch them create. More than 20 artists will participate this year with a gallery exhibition planned for Oct. 9 at the Plaza Walls Gallery.
You can get more info and see the artists’ schedule on the Plaza Walls’ Facebook page.
