For several years, Myriad Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City has offered a free movie on its lawn, letting families reconnect over classic films, such as The Muppet Movie or Oklahoma!.
But the Myriad lawn doesn’t have that much room since people need to be spaced out to keep healthy. Luckily, Myriad has a new big sister.
This summer, Myriad is moving Sonic Summer Movies to the Great Lawn at Scissortail Park. The new park’s lawn is more than four acres larger than the lawn at Myriad, so plenty of space for social distancing.
Every Wednesday, from now to Aug. 5, you can gather your family and friends (well, those friends you feel safe sitting near), and rediscover an older movie, while munching on snacks from a food truck. Be sure to take your blankets and chairs for ultimate relaxation.
This week, you can show your kiddos The Princess Bride, then continue to recite the movie’s lines on your way home. And the food truck line-up is one you’ll want to make room for, with Phill Me Up, Healthy Hippo, Just Desserts and King’s Custom Meats available on Wednesday.
The film starts rolling at dark, so around 8:50 p.m. (Ask your kids why someone says, ‘Roll it!’ when they want a movie to start.)
If you can’t make it Wednesday, the rest of the films, in order from July 15 to Aug. 5 are The Lego Movie, Black Panther, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, then a fan favorite The Sandlot.
