Like most things, the coronavirus did quite the number on our beloved RIVERSPORT venues. But the good news is that once our community entered the “Phase I” reopening stage, RIVERSPORT Adventures followed suit with a staged reopening, starting with lots of space and sanitization to go along with kayak and SUP rentals. Kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent at Lakes Overholser and Hefner as well as on the Oklahoma River.
The even better news? Things have progressed and now even RIVERSPORT Rapids is open! That’s right, if you’re a bit of an adrenaline fiend, you can experience whitewater rapids right here in downtown OKC daily (with a reservation).
Want to check out the rapids without freaking yourself out going over legit Class III-IV rapids? You’re in luck because Love’s Tubing @ 2p is back for the summer also! Fun for kids and adults alike, tubing during “quiet hours” when the rapids are turned down a notch is a great way to enjoy this unique OKC experience. Besides rapids, kayaks and SUPs, the Sky Trail is open as well for your climbing and sliding adventures, so don’t wait! Hit up Riversportokc.org for reservations and more info. Before you head out on your adventure, visit RIVERSPORT’s Facebook page to see if anything is closed for the day. The recent high winds meant kayaking and SUP was canceled that day.
(And P.S.: The new SurfOKC facility is on track to open in August, so get ready to hang ten with Frankie, Annette, Connie and… well, that’s a lie, but surfing in downtown OKC is for real and on its way!)
If all of those activities have you wanting to keep going back, check out the discount being offered on season passes. You can get 30% off passes that are good through 2021! Yup, that’s two seasons of water adventures at a discounted rate.
