Ready, set, play! Just 10 minutes from downtown Oklahoma City and a few minutes north of the state capitol you’ll find Science Museum Oklahoma — eight acres of hands-on exhibits, thousands of historical artifacts, daily interactive science shows and live presentations in the Kirkpatrick Planetarium, exquisite gardens, one of the largest art galleries in the state, and programs for all ages — all under one roof and always with something new to discover!
At Science Museum Oklahoma, everyone has permission to play. The museum’s exhibits (a new one opens at least every six months!) are designed to spark wonder for ages 1 to 101 and they’re built to withstand both the force of kids and the size of kids at heart, too!
In CurioCity (pronounced like “curiosity”), the 20,000 sq. ft. children’s museum within the museum, you can visit eight different neighborhoods exploring different concepts from physics in Spark Park to health and wellness in the carnival-like atmosphere of Hands & Feats. On the Science Floor, hop on and ride a Segway, light up one of the tallest Jacob’s Ladders in North America, and almost effortlessly move a 400-pound weight.
Want to journey through the cosmos? Head to the Kirkpatrick Planetarium where shows are given on the hour (planetarium shows — and everything else inside the museum — are included with admission!) Want to hold fire in the palm of your hand? Visit Science Live for a show that will blow your mind.
You can step into the dark and explore the science of light in Light Minded, build, break, and create in the Tinkering Garage, learn about Oklahoma’s long history with aviation and space exploration in the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame and Destination Space, play classic board games in extreme size in Big Game Theory, and in the smART Space galleries, explore the ever-changing exhibits that USA TODAY has twice in recent years called must-see exhibits.
SMO has camps for pre-K to sixth grade, weekly early childhood education programs, a gardening program to turn your black thumb green, Girl Scout and Boy Scout events, and and Apprentice Program for teens. Don’t fret, adults. SMO has something for you, too. SMO 21 is the 21+ event that includes all the fun of the museum and the more dangerous side of science with no kids allowed. The nights are set to themes, such as Harry Potter or Star Wars.
SMO offers single-day admission online and at the museum’s box office as well as 2- and 6-person memberships, which gives you unlimited access to the museum year-round! Better Life Blog readers can save up to $6 on admission by showing this coupon at the box office.
