If you’re new to OKC, you may not be aware of what are generally considered the “seeds” of OKC’s ongoing renaissance. MAPS, short for “Metropolitan Area Projects” was a groundbreaking pay-as-you-go series of debt-free municipal projects funded by a temporary penny sales tax that created civic amenities and economic drivers hard to imagine OKC without today, like the Chesapeake Energy Arena, Bricktown Canal, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark and more. Indeed, the history of MAPS is quite the tale of a community’s coming together in an innovative manner to make something great (just like OKC in general, eh?).
Why are we telling you this? Because the fourth iteration of this wildly-successful public initiative will be on the ballot Dec. 10! The Love Your OKC campaign aims to pass the MAPS 4 package, a comprehensive series of 16 interconnected projects designed to address human needs, build economic and job-creating projects, and improve neighborhoods as well create facilities that will positively impact our overall quality of life. That means you need to get registered to vote by November 15 in order to be eligible. Find out more about how you can love your OKC by voting YES on December 10 at www.loveyourokc.com.
