Fancy a trip to the DFW MetroPlex (or, if you're in Dallas, to OKC), but less fancy the hours of driving? Never fear, the Heartland Flyer is here. The passenger line is provided as partnership between Amtrak and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
The Amtrak train leaves daily from the historic Santa Fe Station, which sits along E.K. Gaylord Boulevard. The 1930s-era station has been renovated over the years to be not only be a great place to wait for a train, but a beautiful relic of a time when trains were the main transportation mode.
On your way to Fort Worth, Texas, you’ll stop at other cities, including Norman, Pauls Valley and Purcell. The train is popular every football season when University of Oklahoma football fans travel to Dallas, where OU plays the University of Texas in the annual Red River Showdown game.
The train can bring you back on the same day. It arrives in Fort Worth at noon, and departs at 5:25 p.m. to get you back in OKC by 9:30 p.m.
