In OKC, we mean business – literally. The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, the city of Oklahoma City and a number of the other community partners are always looking for new ways to attract new businesses to our community. Attracting destination retail to our city is a big part of that effort.
Enter the International Council of Shopping Centers RECon conference. An annual retail and real estate convention in Las Vegas that attracts just under 40,000 attendees each year, including the biggest retailers in the world.
Why are we talking about a conference in Las Vegas? Because RECon is a vital tool in getting the next big thing to OKC. That national retailer you really, really want to open a location here … there is a great chance a team from Oklahoma City has met with them in Vegas. When a big retailer announces they are coming to OKC, well the odds are good that it all started with a little meeting in the very large Las Vegas Convention Center, except in this case what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay in Vegas.
