In case you didn’t already know this, Thunder fans are known for being some of the most passionate in the league, which didn’t just transpire by happenstance. In fact, OKC’s passion for basketball started even before the Thunder came to town with the New Orleans Hornets.
When the Hornets came to play temporarily in Oklahoma City due to the effects of Hurricane Katrina, the city embraced the idea of having an NBA team of their own. Thus, when the opportunity arose for a particular NBA team to relocate, OKC jumped on the opportunity and the Seattle SuperSonics became the Oklahoma City Thunder.
After the move to OKC, the Thunder drafted key players in Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Serge Ibaka and James Harden, among others, in fostering their rise to NBA prominence. The Thunder made it to the NBA Finals for the first time in 2012. The Thunder have made the playoffs seven of their nine years in Oklahoma City and have had two players win the MVP award.
