Teeming with flavor, color and life, Uptown 23rd is one of the latest neighborhood revitalizations gaining a well-deserved reputation. Uptown 23rd is one of OKC’s oldest retail corridors with historic buildings such as the Gold Dome building, a Buckminister Fuller-inspired geodesic dome on the corner of Classen Avenue and Northwest 23rd Street. The attractions in Uptown are casual, accessible and largely owned by local proprietors.
Must-visit bars and restaurants in the area include Big Truck Tacos, Cheever’s, Pizzeria Gusto, known for their authentic Neapolitan pizza; The Drake, a seafood restaurant served family style; the Pump Bar, a former Texaco station turned bar that serves up drinks in a friendly atmosphere; and the 70s-themed Rockford Cocktail Den. You can also test your detective skills at The Escape OKC, a live-escape game where you have 60 minutes to solve the puzzles of a locked room.
The most recent additions to 23rd’s thriving restaurant and bar scene include the Bunker Club, Scottie’s Deli, UR/BUN and more.
The jewel of 23rd might be the Tower Theatre. Built in 1937, the theatre was one of Oklahoma City’s premier movie houses for nearly four decades but closed in the ‘80s. It was renovated last year and reopened as a live music venue and has attracted popular acts from across the country.
