In OKC, we mean business – literally. The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, the city of Oklahoma City and a number of our other community partners are always looking for new ways to attract new businesses to our community. It is with this goal in mind that a group from OKC is heading west to Las Vegas next week for the International Council of Shopping Centers RECon conference. We’ll have an opportunity to tell more than 36,000 retailers, business owners and developers how great OKC is in a mere three days.
Why is bringing new retail to OKC important? In short, retail is what makes our city go. Sales taxes in Oklahoma City fund the city’s core services and day-to-day operations. That’s important stuff like police, fire, street maintenance, the Zoo, parks, etc. While property taxes can be used to fund voter-approved bond issues for specific capital projects, Oklahoma law actually prohibits cities from levying property taxes for services. So shop till you drop – not only will enjoy finding great deals on fabulous items, but you’ll be helping keep our city great.
