A great escape

OKC is home to one of the best zoos in the country, in our humble opinion. In fact, we are home to one of the oldest zoos in the southwest with a vast collection of the world’s most exotic animals. With more than 500 species of animals including 87 species of mammals, 117 species of birds, 153 species of reptiles and amphibians and 155 species of fish and aquatic invertebrates and marine mammal, we promise that you’ll be channeling your inner animal lover in no time flat.

Discover your inner wild side and get up close and personal with grizzly bears, sea lions, Galapagos tortoises and elephants during hands-on encounters. Take a walk on the wide side and enjoy feeding the giraffes or lorikeets, touching stingrays, playing in the Children’s Zoo, exploring the elephant habitat or a variety of other wildlife experiences. Seriously, the OKC Zoo’s calendar is chock-full of events – from story times with zoo keepers to painting in the wild – your family fun day is one not soon to be forgotten.

In the fall, be sure to visit the red panda exhibit to get an oh-so-cute look at the zoo’s newest oh-so-cute arrival. A red panda cub, born earlier this month, is the 15th cub born at the OKC Zoo since the red panda program began in 1988. Since the youngsters take a few months to bond with their parents, don’t be surprised if the proud parents aren’t visible in the general viewing area.
