It’s no secret that Oklahoma City has strong connections to the U.S. military, and as our nation celebrates Veterans Day on Nov. 11, we feel like it is appropriate to honor the ways that the military has shaped the growth of Oklahoma City. Not only have brave Oklahomans served in all branches of the military spanning several decades, but the state of Oklahoma is home to several military bases, including Altus Air Force Base, Vance Air Force Base, Fort Sill Army Base, McAlester Army Ammunition Army Base, and Oklahoma City’s own Tinker Air Force Base.
Tinker Air Force Base has been part of the Oklahoma City community since 1941 and frequent readers of our blog know how the base plays an important role to the region. Not only is it the largest employer in the state, it is also one of the largest Air Force bases in the nation. Currently, Tinker’s estimated economic impact to the region is $3.41 billion annually.
