I really can't stay

This evening has been

So very nice

My mother will start to worry

My father will be pacing the floor

So really I'd better scurry

But maybe just a half a drink more
(Be charitable while they pour.)

The neighbors might faint
(Baby there are Broadway’s lights out there)
Say what's in this drink
(And water taxis to be had out there.)

I wish I knew how
(They turned the canal lights on now)
To break this spell
(On Western & 63rd, the CHK lights look swell.)

At least I'm gonna say that I tried
(There’s a bunch of snow on that slide.)
