Here in Oklahoma, we don’t like the status quo – we are always looking for ways to stand out. So while the Oklahoma State Capitol is one of many capitols around the country, we added a few Oklahoma touches to make it our own. Did you know that the Oklahoma State Capitol is the only one in the U.S. with a working oil rig on its grounds? But that is just one way Oklahomans have put their unique stamp on their capitol (ok, so we can’t take credit for the oil, but we can take credit for the rig). Oklahoma’s Capitol is also unique for the amount of artwork adorning its hallways. From sculptures to murals to paintings, visitors can peruse the art while learning about Oklahoma history.
If your interest is piqued, we suggest setting up a tour. Self-guided tours are available every day of the week, or you can get a tour from a trained volunteer Monday through Friday (check online for times). Just make sure you leave ample time to explore – the Capitol has 650 rooms and nearly 11 acres of floor space.
