Oklahoma City is consistently recognized as being a haven for business. A strong economic climate, diverse industries and low tax rates mean that our businesses have the opportunity to thrive. One of these diverse industries that is growing, thriving and providing OKC'ers with quality jobs is bioscience. You mean you didn't know our bioscience industry was such a big deal? Well, let us set the record straight.
Cutting-edge research is transferring into successful businesses in our region's fast-growing bioscience cluster. You'll find this industry's presence just northeast of downtown with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), Presbyterian Health Foundation and a number of other organizations and entities. From the new $125 million Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation's eight-story research tower, substantially powered by wind power (seriously), to the seven-story, $120 million cancer research and treatment facility at OUHSC to the ProCure Proton Therapy Center, Oklahoma City is booming with bioscience. In fact, a study completed in 2011 by Battelle, the world's largest, independent research and development organization, found that the Oklahoma City region's employment in the bioscience sector grew 17.8 percent between 2001 and 2008, outpacing the 15.9 percent growth nationally. Impressive, huh?
