Oklahoma City and its citizens have always been creative. Today, you can see it reflected in districts around town – the Paseo Arts District, the Plaza District, Film Row – in our world class museums and art galleries and in the vision that has transformed our city. Our history is filled with bold acts of creativity and innovation. We're here to tell you about a few little known facts about your hometown:
- The world's first installed parking meter was in Oklahoma City? Yup, back in July 1935, the first "coin controlled parking meter" was right here, in OKC.
- You know that handy shopping cart that you push around the grocery store while you're stocking up on goodies? Well that bad boy was invented and used in Oklahoma City back in 1937.
- Back in the day, not much happened west of the Mississippi. But WKY, AM 930, helped change that by being the first radio station to transmit west of the Mississippi River.
Who knew, right? Well, we did, and now you do, too.
