If you’ve been here for long at all, there’s a good chance you’ve heard at least some small mention of a little thing we like to call MAPS 3. The third installment of what was originally known as the Metropolitan Area Projects,MAPS 3 is certain to continue Oklahoma City’s renaissance. Voters voted yes on the penny-on-the-dollar sales tax extension on Dec. 8, 2009. The initiative includes eight projects: a new convention center, modern streetcar system, a 70-acre downtown central park, miles of sidewalks, 57-miles of new public biking and walking trails, improvements to the Oklahoma River (one of the top watersport facilities in the country), state-of-the-art health and wellness aquatic centers and improvements to the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds.
