The number of Charter Schools is growing in Greater Oklahoma City. Charter schools are public schools established by contract with sponsors and often promote a specific curriculum and learning style. Several Greater Oklahoma City school districts are authorized by state law to have charter schools – Edmond, Mid-Del, Moore, Mustang, Oklahoma City and Putnam City.

The Greater Oklahoma City Chamber and other organizations are working with the Oklahoma legislature to expand the utilization of charter schools. Expansion of charter schools will allow districts to improve their performance as well as give parents more options for their children's educations.
