One underrated aspect of moving to a new hometown is transportation. While we are sure you’ll love Oklahoma City as much as we do, we know it is also important to easily travel for vacation or to go see your family and friends in other parts of the country. That is why Oklahoma City is a community that has invested heavily in air travel.
Will Rogers World Airport (WRWA) is the main airport in Oklahoma City and it is currently undergoing an $87 million renovation. The new renovation will add more than 130,000 square feet to the airport terminal. The space will include four new gates, new security checkpoint lanes and even space for non-ticketed visitors.
This terminal expansion also unveils a new assortment of retail shops and restaurants. Leading airport retailer and restaurateur Paradies Lagardère devised a concessions program featuring local favorites such as Plenty Mercantile, Tin Lizzie’s, Osteria and more.
While the new amenities are incredibly important, the reason WRWA sees more than 3.8 million travelers each year is because the airport is aggressive about adding new destinations to serve the citizens of Oklahoma City. The airport currently offers 26 nonstop flights. Most recently Breeze Airways entered the Oklahoma City market with nonstop service to New Orleans, San Antonio and Austin (the Austin flight will begin running Oct. 7).
You’d also be interested to find out that OKC doesn’t have just one airport, but three. The second one, Wiley Post Airport, is a reliever airport for Will Rogers and functions as a major center for corporate and business aviation. The third, Clarence E. Page airport, is a facility perfect for grass-roots aviators with several experimental and small general aviation aircraft.
