With the wintry weather comes the grim reminder that far too many children lack the basic necessities to stay warm this time of year. A number of businesses, organizations and charities in the Oklahoma City metro sponsor winter-coat drives, with one of the more high-profile efforts being Warmth 4 Winter. A joint project of KFOR-TV Channel 4, the Salvation Army, the Oklahoma County Commissioners' office and the Oklahoma City Rotary Club, Warmth 4 Winter collects winter coats, gloves, hats, scarves and blankets for people in need. Drop-offs are accepted at the Salvation Army headquarters at 501 S. Harvey, the lobby of the Oklahoma County Court Annex and a host of other sites listed here.
There are other ways to help spread the warmth. Coats and other items, for example, are being accepted at the City Rescue Mission, which will distribute the clothes to the homeless and near-homeless on Christmas Eve.
