Let the Music Play

The Oklahoma City Philharmonic launches a new season at the Civic Center Music Hall on Saturday, Sept. 24. The symphony will be joined by Grammy-winning violinist James Ehmes and will perform works by Wagner, Liszt, Turina and Tchaikosvky. Other guest performers slated for the Philharmonic's 23rd season include renowned soprano Sarah Coburn and violinist Rachel Barton Pine.

While conductor Joel Levine and the symphony orchestra embrace the masterworks, they also have plenty to offer those who prefer pop culture and more eclectic fare. A Nov. 3 performance features indie pop-rock star Ben Folds, whose prior musical collaborations have included novelist Nick Hornby and Capt. Kirk himself, William Shatner. Other highlights this season include Tony DeSare, Pink Martini and ABBA-tribute band Waterloo. For more pint-sized music lovers, the symphony will hold three family-friendly concerts over the coming months.
