Going Underground

With temperatures fit for frying eggs on the sidewalk – not, incidentally, a cooking method we are condoning – now might be a good time to acquaint yourself with one of the more unique aspects of downtown Oklahoma City. The pedestrian tunnels and skyways of The Underground, formerly known as the Conncourse (named for late civic leader Jack Conn), link 16 blocks and more than 30 buildings. Opened in 1974, the three-quarter-mile system is a welcome way to get around during times of extreme weather – or rack up some steps on your pedometer. Grab a map and check it out.
