Fred Knows Art

If you're up for a quick (and we mean quick) road trip, head south on I-35 to the college town of Norman and check out one of the metro's finest art museums. The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, located on the northwest end of the University of Oklahoma's campus, is filled to the brim with nearly 16,000 incredible works of art in the permanent collection. These works span French Impressionism, 20th century American painting and sculpture, traditional and contemporary Native American art, art of the Southwest, ceramics, photography, contemporary art, and Asian art and graphics from the 16th century to present. This expansive list doesn't include the six other exhibitions currently on display at the museum.

Until Feb. 12, you can experience the 98th annual School of Art & Art History Student Exhibition. The museum is open Tuesday through Sunday (Tuesday-Thursday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sat: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday: 1 to 5 p.m.). Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors (65 and over), $3 for children (6-17), and $2 for OU faculty/staff. Children under 6, museum association members, OU College of Fine Arts faculty and staff, military veterans with proof and OU students with a valid ID are free.
